Basic Fundamentals of a Blank DVD

Blank DVD is an inseparable part of any person life who works on the computers and that’s why it has gained a strong foothold around the globe.

There are basically two types of DVDs available. First is DVD minus R (DVD-R) with data capacity of 4.7 GB that can record a 120 minute video on it. Once full it cannot be erased or rewritten, but more data can be added on it if it has any space left to accommodate it. Second type is DVD plus R (DVD+R). Its looks, capacity and performance are same as of DVD-R but slightly better off technically. This also can be written on only once.

Though the capacity of a DVD is said to be 4.7 GB but in reality it can copy data only up to 4.3GB. All discs have a write speed like 1x, 2x, 4x etc. but the fastest speed is 16x and can be fully written in just 7 minutes as compared to 120 minutes for a 1x disc or 30 minutes to a 4x disc. Writing speed also depends on how old is your DVD writer as older writes cannot match up the speed of new discs. DVD-R and DVD+R are available in double layers also which doubles the storage capacity to 8.5 GB or 240 minutes.

It’s always very important to buy blank DVD manufactured by a reputed company. It can be a little costlier to buy a high quality blank DVDs but then it will keep your important data safe for a longer time.
